WiFiman: The Perfect App for Testing and Tracking Your Wi-Fi
If you're looking for an app that can help you test and track your Wi-Fi speeds, monitor local Wi-Fi activity, and provide you with in-depth specs about your Wi-Fi, then WiFiman is the app for you. I've been using this app for almost a year now, and it has been one of the best tools on my phone, working just like they advertise.
Features
- Continuously displays pings of 3 different servers, while simultaneously a moving graph of signal strength
- Signals, Channels, distance for first time I find an app calculated correctly
- Sound alarm for signal strength good for finding optimal position of your router
- Grouped view under one Wi-Fi name all access points not only yours
- Network scanning, discovering all devices through 5 access points
- Graphs for 2.4 and 5Ghz
- AR mode of their Signal Mapper option gives a gradient on how the Wi-Fi signal deteriorates
- Check cell connections
WiFiman has a beautiful interface and layout, and it's not loaded with junk. More app developers should follow their lead. The app is ad-free, and it does what it's supposed to do without trying to reinvent the wheel.
The app continuously displays pings of 3 different servers, while simultaneously showing a moving graph of signal strength. The 3 pinged servers are Google, Facebook, and 8.8.8.8. However, I would rather see the actual IP addresses than website names. Also, 8.8.8.8 is a Google IP, so pinging "Google" and "8.8.8.8" is redundant -- those two ping-times are always extremely close. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to choose which 3 IP addresses get pinged. I would change one of the Google IPs to Yahoo.
The VR heatmap isn't very useful and a bit buggy, but everything else works perfectly. As someone with deep networking knowledge, this app was more than sufficient for my needs from my mobile device.
Recommendation
Overall, WiFiman is the best Wi-Fi analysis tool I've used. It's a pretty full-featured scanner with the added bonus of being able to check cell connections. I have a few gripes, but they are minor and may just be something I need to play around with more to get what I need. So for now, it gets a perfect score from me. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking for a reliable Wi-Fi testing and tracking tool.
As someone who rarely reviews apps, I must admit that this Wi-Fi app is right up there with the best that I've personally tried. I hope this review helps you make an informed decision about whether or not to download WiFiman.
